PipRouting Project

So I recently passed Cisco's CCDP certification (April 2011). Which validates that I have conceptual knowledge of network design. So to build on these skills I am embarking on a personal project.

The project will follow strict PPDIOO procedures.

The PPDIOO is very helpful in implementing a new network or a network refresh.  In my opinion this model  gives you a much better understanding regarding the final outcome of the task. As I type this document I've come to realize that I've been unconsciously working with first 3 stages of the model for about 3 months (from Dec 2010 to March 2011). This document does not go into detail regarding the PPDIOO model.

The following is a brief outline of the steps taken so far.

  1. I've been mentally preparing for this project for a long time. The preparation was the simple thought that I need to have a thorough understanding of network design.
  2. The plan was to... to be continued...

The concept behind the project is simple:
  1. Setup Linux/Windows DNS server
  2. Physical Linux DHCP server which provides IP addresses for 3 subnets (voice, wireless and data).
  3. Virtual Windows 2003/2008 servers (Domain controllers)
  4. Physical Exchange 2003/2010
  5. All network devices will be backed up using Rancid
Below is the actual network layout. The layout consists of access, distribution and core layer/edge.
